Aromatherapy
is
the therapeutic use of concentrated and aromatic plant essences –
essential oils - to relieve stress, enhance health and well-being and
support the healing process. Essential
oils occur naturally in many plants growing worldwide and may be present
in leaves, seeds, flowers, roots, fruits and woods or in some cases the
whole plant.
Commonly used oils include lavender, geranium, lemon,
frankincense and rose.
Massage
can relax the body and mind, release muscular tension, soothe pain,
stimulate the circulatory and lymphatic system, and balance the immune
system. Aromatherapy
Massage combines these effects for a treatment that can help a wide
range of common health problems. How
can it help?

for Stress Stress
can show itself directly in many ways - sleeplessness, headaches,
anxiety, irritability. It may also aggravate or even cause many
other problems such as eczema and other allergies, digestive problems
and high blood pressure. It can add to the risk of long term ill health.
The right choice of oils can soothe physical symptoms, relaxing the
muscles and whole body as well as calming the mind to help alleviate the
feelings associated with stress. ….
for Joint Problems Joint
problems from arthritis, injuries, playing sports, or ageing can cause
pain, discomfort and inflammation. Toxins build up in these areas
and judicious massage aids their removal whilst relieving pain and so
increasing mobility. ….
for Muscular Aches and Pains The
combination of deeper massage and the potent effects of aromatherapy
oils can release tight muscle fibres and ease spasm. It increases
circulation to the area which helps reduce pain and carry away toxins. ….for
Womens’ Health Hormonal
changes cause the problems associated with PMT and the menopause.
Aromatherapy massage can help with symptoms and may also improve the
balance of hormones in the body.
Several essential oils contain phytohormones, substances similar
in structure to sex hormones in humans.
A number of these may be helpful in relieving symptoms. Gentle
massage with certain oils is very relaxing during pregnancy (for both
mother and baby!). |

Your
treatment At
your first visit, I will conduct a consultation, asking questions about
your general health and medical history, your lifestyle and any
particular problems you may have. This information helps determine your
treatment plan, which can also include suggestions for other measures
that may be helpful (e.g. diet, exercise, other therapies). It is also
your opportunity to discuss what you would like to get out of the
session. I
then select oils based on the consultation and your own preference and
combine them to suit your individual needs, using this blend in a gentle
but effective style of massage. Afterwards
you will be given a short while to relax and discuss anything you wish
about the massage or further treatments. The
Oils For maximum effectiveness I use essential oils of high quality and purity, most of which come from organic or naturally farmed sources (see www.materiaaromatica.com). These are blended with a pure vegetable carrier oil to suit your skin type. It may be helpful to use the essential oils at home and blends can be made up for this purpose. |
